I was a dancer at BDC for about fifteen years. I would not trade those fifteen years for the world, and truly feel that my relationship with dance has significantly impacted who I am today. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce Undergraduate Degree at the University of Guelph, and work at a local law firm. I can confidently say that without dance I wouldn’t have developed major soft skills including learning the importance of discipline, teamwork, and creativity. These developed skills have successfully guided, and will continue to guide me throughout my personal and educational pathway.

The people I have met throughout my time at BDC are the people that I will be taking to the grave hahaha, that’s a little bit morbid but it’s the truth. These people have seen me at my lowest, my highest, and everything in between. From coaches to teammates, every single one of them has and continues to add value to my life. Not only are they my biggest supporters through thick and thin, but they are also some of my biggest role models. They’re the type of friends that you don’t talk to for years and when you see them, you pick back up right where you left off. I am incredibly grateful to have these people in my life.

I joined the BDC family at 4 years old, taking Sunday morning ballet class at the original studio. Little did I know that I would dance at BDC for over 13 years. Throughout my time as both a recreational and competitive dancer I had gained some of my most meaningful friendships, memories, and lessons through the art of being part of the close-knit team Jolene (or Ms. B) had created. Dancing at a studio like BDC allowed me to develop my passion for dance and the arts through being able to express myself freely in an open and judgment-free environment. Since graduating from BDC in 2017 I have been able to use my dance training in other great opportunities such as traveling with the group Up With People.
